The Novartis Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization that works to improve health and narrow existing health disparities in cities. Our mission is to innovate the way health of urban populations is managed and improved. We achieve this through data-driven, AI-enabled actions, and multisector partnerships that bridge the health and health-influencing sectors.

The Novartis Foundation is funded by Novartis but is drug agnostic and unrelated to Novartis Group’s commercial operations. It has a clear mission to improve the health of populations and operates under the oversight of an independent Board of Trustees.

Our vision

We envision a future where cities promote health and where health systems predict risk or disease, prevent complications, and enable everyone to live happier, healthier lives. Our work begins with understanding drivers of health and healthcare and ends with measuring improvements from precise city-led action.

How we work

We combine data, AI, and multidisciplinary partnerships to turn evidence into impact.

Data and AI for insight

We use a combination of data from the health and health-influencing sectors, and qualitative information from listening to communities, to reveal the main drivers of cardiovascular outcomes and disparities.

Data-driven implementation

We help cities act on those insights through proven interventions that accelerate control of cardiovascular risk and reduce acute events, such as heart attacks and strokes.

Partnership and credibility

We act as a neutral convenor, bringing together city and health authorities, health system managers, private sector partners, community-based organizations and academia to collaborate on a shared health goal.

Innovation

We also act as an innovation engine, testing and scaling new models that use data and technology to accelerate social impact by transforming health services.
